Why does iTunes have to play in a separate window while converting?

Last Revised: 2017-07-13 16:44:24

FAQ for the following product:

Due to the DRM settings on iTunes files, the software will record the DRM file to remove the protection while it is played back from the iTunes window. If the iTunes playback is not set to play in a separate window, the software will fail to convert the iTunes DRM files. The method below will allow you to setup iTunes properly for the conversion.

1. Ensure that you have the latest version of iTunes from the link below:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

2. Start iTunes and play the video that you wish to convert in the iTunes.

3. Right click (right mouse button) the video while it’s playing and select Play Video in Separate Window.

Note: If you are running iTunes version 10.4 or lower, the way to play the file in a separate window is to click Edit > Preferences > Playback Play file and TV programs, and choose Play Video in Separate Window.
